The terms command training and obedience training are synonymous. Both refer to the art and science of teaching your dog to obey your instructions.

- to sit
- to stand
- to lie down
- to come to you
- to stop whatever he is doing at the moment
- to wait in place until he receives the release command
- to follow you immediately
- to walk by your side in the prescribed fashion
