Sandwich Cues
Every command always begins with an opening statement in which you get your dog's attention by calling his name in your command voice. That should be followed an instant later by the command itself. Correspondingly, with the exception of No, Let's go, and Okay, all obedience commands always end with a release.
The words that you sandwich in between your initial command and your release are called sandwich cues. The most common, sandwich cues are the words stay, which you speak to your dog as a reminder, along with the words good dog which are spoken to reassure your dog that he is doing the right thing.
