Detrimental Punishment
The term detrimental punishment, as it is used on this website, refers to punishment that causes the subject physical pain, injury, or psychological trauma.
Punishment can also be said to be detrimental when it produces other side effects, like chronic emotional upset and the development of a dislike of the person or the thing that is doing the punishing. However, research shows that those detrimental side effects can be neutralized when punishment is integrated into a three-part program built upon the formula for changing behavior.
