Subject
The term subject simply refers to whoever it is that you are working with. If you are working with your dog, then, your dog is referred to as the subject. If you are focused on influencing the behavior of your child, then, your child is your subject, and so forth.
There are some who are of the opinion that speaking of a dog or a human as a subject somehow serves to devalue and undermine the individuality of the sentient being referred to. However, referring to the object of your effort as a subject serves to remind all concerned that despite individual differences, there are natural laws, defineable principles, and external contingencies that in the end, govern all behavior and determine what each of us will do.
