The Target Response - also known as the Target Behavior

When you have identified one of your dog's responses as being something you want to change, or if you identify a new response that you would like to teach him, then thereafter, when we talk about that response, we refer to it as the target response, which means that it has been targeted for change.

For example, if you are teaching your dog what to bark at and what not to bark at, then the target behavior is barking. If you are teaching him not to get on the couch, then, the target response is getting on the couch, etc.
