A Response

The term response simply refers to anything your subject does. Therefore, if you are trying to keep your dog from growling at the mailman, then, we say you are dealing with your subject's growling response. If he is chasing a cat, we speak of a chasing response, etc. Therefore, when we speak of the response, we are just referring to whatever it is your dog is doing. If he is doing it and you are focused on it, then, it is labeled as the response.

The term response and the term behavior are synonymous, and can be used interchangeably.
