The Art of Ambushing Your Dog

An ambush procedure is, essentially, a setup in which you not only allow your dog to make certain mistakes, you actually try to trick him to ensure that he will make those mistakes, so that you can then correct him, and use his wrongful behavior as a means of teaching him not to make those same unacceptable responses again in the future.

The ambush is extremely useful for dealing with a dog that steals food from the table or other locations where it may have been left unattended by unwary humans. It is also a superb technique for use in street safety training.

When used as a component of street training, the ambush should be carried out by way of a this - not that, procedure.

Because the ambush constitutes a form of overlearning, its employment over time can result in near perfect behavior in terms of the conditioned variables.
